Early Life
Scoop Makhathini was bornSiyabonga Ngwekazi on 16 March 1982 in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa. He grew up with his parents and siblings.
Career
Makhathini moved from being a basketball player to a presenter, sports commentator, brand ambassador, and entrepreneur. He co-hosted the 8th Annual Metro FM Music Awards with Penny Lebyane in 2007.
He drew the attention of television viewers after hosting the show Turn Up and YFM’s Sizz N Scoop alongside Sizwe Dlomo. He also partnered with the late DJ Dimplez to create a podcast, Pop Cast.
Before stepping back and focusing more on television, Makhathini has done music and is passionate about it. His hit songs include Rahh and Ngenya, which made waves in 2008.
In 2008, He took over from Trevon Noah as the male host of season two of The Real Goboza, a celebrity gossip show. In 2010, he was a digital host for the 16th Annual South African Music Awards (SAMAs), held in Sun City.
As a producer, his work is evident in the Vuzu reality series Forever Young, where he played a starring in 2012. Ever since he has appeared in many shows across the country. He joined AKA on The Braai Show with AKA, which aired on SABC1.
The radio personality appeared in one of the episodes of the hip-hop podcast The Sobering and is associated with many big brands. He won the Best Fashion Icon award presented by Crocs at the GQ Best Dressed 2024.
He has also been on the streets of Pop Culture as a stylish and fashion-forward guru. He has been involved in Boyz N Bucks, a creative that merged because of fashion, culture, and music.
Scoop has collaborated with the international brand Hennessy and started a web show, MAKHATHAZA TV.
Personal Life
Scoop Makhathini is dating haircare entrepreneur and model Akhona Carpede. The duo made headlines after he alleged that she had cheated on him with her best friend. After deleting the tweet, he blamed a hacker for the posts.
He also made headlines after posting his selfie with a caption referring to his digital stylist girlfriend, Carol Lali, aka Miss Acalalca, as his ‘wife to be’ in 2019.
